About
Renoir’s The Skiff (La Yole) dates back to the 19th century and its subject matter typically characterises Impressionism. The DMC Mouliné Spécial skeins used in this cross stitch reproduction of Renoir's The Skiff (La Yole) are approved for colour accuracy by the experts at The National Gallery.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was one of the leading painters of the Impressionist group. His compositions are made up of broken brushstrokes and bold combinations of complementary colours, to capture the light and movement of his subject matter. However, by the 1880’s his painting technique changed, becoming more linear and classical.
The National Gallery, London houses one of the greatest collections of paintings in the world. Its collection boasts 2,300 works including many famous paintings such as van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez’s Rokeby Venus, Turner’s Fighting Temeraire and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. All major traditions of Western European painting are represented from the artists of the late mediaeval era and Renaissance Italy to the French Impressionists.
