The Water-Lily Pond by Monet, The National Gallery Advanced Cross Stitch Kit

Recreate Monet’s verdant Water-Lily Pond using this cross stitch kit, which has been developed in collaboration with The National Gallery.

About this product

The water garden Monet built next to his house in Giverny became the main obsession of his career, inspiring 250 paintings. This kit allows you to experience a little slice of the gardens and a new perspective of this great artwork as you recreate the work in the world’s favourite embroidery thread, Mouliné Spécial.

Oscar-Claude Monet was a French painter and founder of the impressionist movement which was named after one of his paintings - Impression, soleil levant. Impressionism is characterised by small, thin, visible brush strokes, open composition and an emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities. It features ordinary subject matter, unusual visual angles, and includes movement as a crucial element of human perception.

The National Gallery, London houses one of the greatest collections of paintings in the world. Its collection boasts 2,300 works including many famous paintings such as van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez’s Rokeby Venus, Turner’s Fighting Temeraire and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. All major traditions of Western European painting are represented from the artists of late medieval and Renaissance Italy to the French Impressionists.

DMC Mouliné Spécial is colourfast and fade resistant so your project should stay looking great for generations to come. When washing please take into account the care instructions for any fabric you have used. We recommend washing with mild soap. After washing, roll your embroidery in a towel to remove excess water, then dry flat. Place your embroidery on a clean cloth, preferably while still damp, and iron on the reverse side, at the temperature setting recommended for the fabric.
